tutorial fodder giveaway.

One more thing before I sign off for a couple weeks. Free stuff.

I've got all this tutorial stuff! We've got plenty of lunch sacks around here, so we don't need more. My hair is too short for scrunchies. And I've already got a diaper strap. So you guys can have it!!

Leave a comment, and everything pictured below is yours.

But seriously, I couldn't send it all naked to you, could I? So I made a bag. This bag has been in my head for a while, and I just couldn't contain it any longer. I love this bag. When I'm done all the other do quickly projects, I'm making myself one for Christmas.

So if your name is randomly drawn, this is what you get:

1 blue "LUNCH" oil cloth lunch sack
1 pink flower oil cloth lunch sack
6 scrunchies
1 diaper strap
and 1 cool vintage looking bag to put it all in.

Rules:
  • be nice. (no dirty words)
  • Link to this post (and let me know) for 2 entries.
  • Giveaway ends midnight Sunday, September 6.
  • I'll post the winner MONDAY SEPTEMBER 7.

Now I'm off to make noodles for lunch, grind some wheat, chalk a driveway, perfect my lightsaber skills, increase my iron saturation levels without taking pills, which means eat steak, sell a house, stalk the coupon queen until her powers sink into my soul, and finish the pile of unfinished.

It may take a while.

diaper strap tutorial.

I've had a number of emails lately asking for ideas on quick and easy baby gifts. You know, the kind you can give a new mom with a little note of well wishes and wipes, without the fanfare of showers and gift receipts. My answer is, the diaper strap.

I think we're kinda steering away from the big vinyl chunky diaper bags, and moving more towards a modern disguised looking baby bag. Especially for those quick trips where you don't necessarily need to haul the baby tub and loofahs. I love the strap idea because it's enough to carry the essentials - a couple diapers and the wipes - and it keeps them strapped together tight and stylish in your own handbag; AND dad can carry it to the changing room without wearing a purse. You're welcome guys.

So here it is:

Check out these totally cute diaper cakes from ediapercakes.com.  They'd be such a good idea for a baby shower table centerpiece.  Love 'em.

yeah, I cut my hair.

quite literally...I cut it in my bathroom. I was feelin' frumpy, so I cut it off, except I couldn't find a mirror to look at the back so I ran to my mother-in-laws for her to cut the wonky pieces I missed. Then I asked Yo Mama (visiting from NY, who has recently grown her hair out long and luscious) how she felt about bangs and she said they inhibited her ability to be a good mom, but I should do it, and I always do what she says. She has the power of persuasion.

I like 'em! but I have to agree with her. I'm not so quick with the one wipe diaper show anymore because I'm fussin' with the bangs. But we can deal.

I apologize, I posted the sprinkles picture before pre-empting you with the hair cut headliner. I just wasn't thinking. Then after reading your nice comments on the hair (and the sprinkles), I figured I better address it. (Thanks guys.) And really, what is a blog without a "got my haircut" post or two.

So there it is. Bangs and all. I got my haircut.

today.

today i spent way too much time with screens and mommy guilt, and not nearly enough time with sprinkles.

oilcloth lunch sack tutorial.

Oilcloth is a laminated fabric. Totally washable, which makes it perfect for reusable lunch sacks. There are tons of ideas and instructions out there for these, and fabric.com had oilcloth on sale, and I had a coupon, so I thought we'd try it.

I found the easiest pattern from Skip To My Lou. She's got a great site. I used her pattern and added velcro and "embellishments" to personalize them.

Oilcloth is washable, but still plastic, therefore not such a great idea for direct contact with your food. Keep that in mind.

Here's how we did it:

you can leave the top, or fold it over like this:

scrunchie tutorial.

Remember the good ole days? Back in the 80's but Greaties, when the size of your scrunchie poof determined all coolness. That and how many twisty beads you owned. Very cool.

I love a scrunchie.

Here's how you do it.

If you want more poof, make it wider. If you want more scrunch, make it longer. I actually like a little less poof and a little more scrunch, so I do my own personal scrunchies 14"x7". Around there. But for you, you're cool, so you get more poof, less scrunch, 15"x6".

the end.
