Andy's Dinosaur Party

Andy wanted a dinosaur party this year, and he wanted to do the menu by himself. He's awesome. However, he asked for a REAL cake this year! Uh...I do doughnut cakes, son, which consists of stacking Krispy Kremes on a plate, maybe your forgot.

Enter Sam's Club.  Real live cakes may not be my domestic forte, but easy and efficient are.  In fact, you could say when it comes to all things low effort, I'm a pro.  Self proclaimed.  So I bought a chocolate cake from Sam's and stuck an awesome T-Rex on top. Voila! Dinosaur Cake!!

I bought jars from the dollar store, glued a dino on top and filled them with gumballs, a rocky bouncy ball, Pop Rocks, and a geode for their "thanks for coming" gift.

And for the activity? to the park!! They searched for hidden dinosaur skeletons on the way home, and all were pre-historically happy and well fed.

I love simplicity.

And I love Andy.

Cassy's Puny Party.

My nephew turned one, so of course she had the perfect party planned, complete with tiny door and 18 tiny 3 layer cakes.  Yes, I said 18.

There was no blogging last week, but we did have a party!

Dani and I found most of the ideas online, but I couldn't find an easy hat tutorial so I figured that one out.  And I actually took pictures while making them, so I'll share a tutorial on those someday.

And the quilt?  Sitting unfinished on the chair in the Corner of Neglected Projects.  It didn't quite make it to the baby shower.  I hate that.

I'm dying to sew.  To just be creative, somehow.  I have been so married to "busy" lately that my creative brain, which seems to be dominant, is getting very angry with me.  So I'm cranky.

This pile of fabric is sitting on my desk, waiting for some attention.  I sit down and just look at it sometimes.  Sketch pictures of what it could be.  Then get up and move on.  Sad.

Busy isn't nice.  It's obnoxious.

time to simplify.

Just when you're ready to get back to the blog, you're not.

My sister's amazing Tangled party.

My sister is amazing at everything, but today we're talking about her parties.

Namely, this one.

I'm not even going to post pictures so you have to go over and see them all...because then you'll see not only the adorable invitations, but the giant yellow braid hanging out her second story window, and that same braid strewn all over the entire house until it ends up in a very awesome home-made Tangled Tower.

And you'll also see the incredible Floating Lanterns mural she painted that I want in my living room.

And the Snuggly Duckling menu, served in frying pans.

And the treasure hunt for the missing satchel.

And the frying pan shrinky dinks.

And the hidden Royal Sun paintings.

And THE CAKE!!! yup. for real.

And then I kind of cried as they all let their biodegradable yellow lanterns float into the sky.

And she's funny, too. Read it.

She has a crush on Flynn Rider. Like for real.

She makes magic for her kids. I love her.

Hogwarts.

They arrived Friday night. Filch greeted them at the bottom of the hill with lantern in hand and croaked "I'm here for the First Years!"

The kids giggled and followed Grandma up the driveway, into the magic of Hogwarts.

They were welcomed to a feast of Pumpkin Pasties, Treacle Tarts, Butter Beer and Pumpkin Juice, among other wonderful wizarding treats and trifles.

Then they were sorted. {there was a walkie talkie in the Sorting Hat, and Seth had the other in the bathroom.} Jake was first, in Ravenclaw. He was content. Then Andy in Hufflepuff. He was happpy. Joey and Kacie in Slytherin. Appropriate. And Dani in Gryffindor. She was elated.

Off to the House Dormitories for the night.

The details were everywhere. Thank you, Cassy. I wish I were there.

My sister Cassy is the Party Momma of the Milennium.


Jonny Knight (actual middle name, not just a party name. The name came before the party) turned 3 while they were visiting my parents in Canada. And there was born the perfect party for a knight.

They decorated their own swords and shields, and went on a quest to find the treasure, stolen from the black dragon Firetooth. Gettin clues and fighting foes along the way.

After slaying the dragon (daddy), they were each knighted, and given their treasures.

And then they ate cake! Uh, yeah, that's a cake.

Her kids will treasure their birthdays for as long as they live.
