I need to learn just to enjoy, not to analyze. Distraction is bad.

I was trying to avoid this. I don't want it to be so totally obvious that I love a tv show so much because I talk about it all the time. You know, subtle. I need to be subtle. Moderation in all things. I've got much more important things to do than sit in the shower for 35 minutes trying to figure out why Claire's boyfriend, father of Aaron, had the same painting in his apartment in 2004 that Whitmore had in his office in 1995. These are the things that plague me.

So I wasn't going to post anything about this media phenomenon of our times; to show the world I'm okay without the island. I'm perfectly content to live my life without fabricated anticipation and intrigue. { THis all started with Twin Peaks. I blame it on Agent Dale Cooper.}

However, I've gotten a number of polite email requests asking what I think about this weeks episode. So let's. face. facts. I have been drawn in by a society of very intelligent media manipulators who know exactly how to get you to forget about all that's real and lovely for a total of 2. 1 million minutes per week to make themselves a bunch of money. Because they can. I'm a victim.

Richard is fantastic. His story was better than I expected. Hurley is even better; he's going to save the world. I think the producers are making too much of an obvious comparison between good and evil here. There's a twist coming. duh. They wouldn't just spoon feed us that symbolism without a twist. What is with the similarity between Samurai guy's instructions to Sayid killing Locke and Smokie's instructions to Richard killing Jacob? Stab him in the heart, and don't let him speak or it's over. Hmmm. Maybe they're just symbolic of everybody's sub-conscience or something. It's too much for me to handle. Why doesn't Smokie just kill everyone else and get himself off the island? why can't he kill the candidates? Why does he need to recruit them?

I just don't even have much to say. I keep researching my Aaron theory, but I need to stop because I might be wrong and I don't have time to think about it anymore. BUT...remember when Claire appeared to Kate in her house in LA and told her not to bring Aaron back to the island, rather harshly, like black smoke harshly? But she didn't refer to him as Aaron. And Charlie came to Jack and told him he can't raise Aaron. Except he didn't refer to him as Aaron either?

Okay. I'm letting go.

I'm going to saturate my mind with the important things so as to leave no room for Hurley. Or his impending doom.

done.

I have missed the last three seasons of LOST, and now I am:) I can't wait until everything is out on DVD so I can watch it. (We don't have our TV hooked up, except to watch movies)

LOST, LOST, LOST....!!!!

I agree, this episode was better than I thought it would be too and I'm so glad you posted because I didn't notice most of the stuff you brought up. Very interesting.

Superman and I are totally obsessed, too. And like Rushton said, you remember details that I don't! There's going to be connections between everything.

When they showed the verse Richard was reading in the English Bible, we were like, "What was that verse?! It means something?"

We used to think Smokie could only kill bad people, but he ate all the "good" people at the temple. I would say more, but I can't remember everything that could be relevant.

I love how you think. I love, love, love how you think! And I completely agree, I thought Richard's story was actually pretty good! But I don't want there to be a huge twist. It's just easier for my little brain to think--Jacob good--Black mist bad. But I should realize that LOST never keeps things simple. Oh well!

Who exactly do you think the little blonde boy (and who is he?) was talking about the Black Mist-Locke not being able to kill because of the "rules?"

Oooh, Becky. THe blonde kid is Jacob, as a boy. I sometimes think this is all just a game...a sick twisted game between Jacob and Smokie, who are brothers. So I think there are rules that Smokie can't kill candidates, somehow. But remember how Ben went to find Whidmore because he was so mad he killed Alex, and they met in the hotel room and said they'd love to kill eachother, but they couldn't. Either because the island wouldn't let them die, or because it's against "rules". I dunno.

There was an obvious closeup of a butterfly flying into the ship before Richard saw the big ship. I thought that was jacob somehow, and then there was a pig. Can Jacob become wierd animals, like a polar bear? Or a dog named Vincent? I dunno.

And Captain Hanso of the Black Rock. Hanso, as in Dharma. As in Whidmore buying the journal of the Black Rock at that auction.

Why do ashes keep smokie away?

But really, I don't care very much. Whatever.

The candidates have to be able to die right? I mean, I don't know for sure about Jack I guess, but why would that girl be sent to protect them if they weren't able to die? And how do you know the kid is Jacob? Are you sure that's not Aaron somehow? I still go back to thinking about last weeks episode and Lock/Smokie's warning to Kate about raising Aaron instead of letting Clair raise him, like Aaron could turn into Smokie, but I don't see how they could pull that one off.

I am so impressed with your attention to detail, amazing. I do agree that there has to be some big twist, because blackie being bad and Jacob being good is just too straight forward. They're definitely going to pull something there...

Thanks for the post! :) Feel free to ramble more if you just can't help yourself. I'm still waiting for my husband to watch the last 5 episodes so I can finally talk to him about them!

I too am a lover of Lost. As a Letter Carrier I have plenty of time during my day to over analyze situations, but this is one distraction that I enjoy while on my route. I look forward to your future commentaries and theories. It's getting so good, isn't it? :)

Yes, I think the candidates can die {wasn't Locke one in the beginning? and he died}, but just can't be killed by Smokie. ???

I think the boy was Jacob just because Smokie recognized him so quickly. He knew who he was right away...and was afraid of him. So he could be Aaron I suppose. Because Smokie is afraid of Aaron too.

Good thinking.

Just thought of something else. Because I'm trying not to, and that's when you get your best ideas.

Jacob and Smokie can only be killed with knives, maybe. Richard and Sayid used the same knife to kill "the devil". And Ben killed Jacob with a knife. And Locke had a thing with knives. Now bear with me here...Remember way back forever ago when Locke was teaching Walt how to throw his knives in the jungle? He told him to use his mind, or something like that. And Walt is "special". And he can throw a knife with his mind. And he was friends with Vincent the Jacob dog.

I'm stretching. But that's what you do with Lost. When you're not thinking about it anymore.

I think I need to go back and rent or buy all of the seasons and watch them all over again to look for anything I missed.

If only I had a month of free time...

oh, how I love your lost posts. I wish I followed it as well as you do, what a tangled web! I can't wait to find out what will happen next. And Twin Peaks (I thought my dad and I were the only ones who watched that show). Sometimes my arms bend back.

I so love reading your Lost posts! I don't know how you manage to notice so many details that I miss! Maybe I need to watch each episode twice. Keep the commentaries coming - I love 'em!

I thought that Richard ate the pig that came into the ship-ya know with the guy in black sitting there watching him? There are just too many similarities to him and the devil-he talks about Jacob stealing his body, and we don't ever see him eat or drink and they kinda made it a point to show Jacob drinking the wine then when Jacob gives the wine to smoke monster and says 'to pass the time'. And he keeps trying to take over other people's bodies cuz he wants one really bad but can't have one. I don't know about the other animals but I like the theory-never thought of that. I watched this episode like 20 times which I have never done. I had to erase it or I would have watched it 20 more times. But what is the significance of smokie giving Richard his cross back? And why does Jacob not know Isablla? IF he is God wouldn't he know Isabella? I loved the show but it just made me think of a million more things...

cally said...

Oh yeah! Smokie never eats. good one. didn't put that one together. So he doesn't have a body...does he need a permanent one to get off the island?

I'm putting it to rest. It hurts.

With every episode I flip flop between who is evil and who is good. Is Flocke the good one? Or is Jacob? Who is more deceiving? Is either good?

This past episode was one of my favorites. I have been wondering about Richard since he was introduced! It answers so many questions, but then begs for so many more to be answered. Like, how is it that Jacob can grant him immortality? He touched Richard, as he touched the other candidates. Does that make them all immortal? From what I understood, they just could not kill themselves.

Here was my favorite part of the episode though: When Jacob was explaining to Richard about the way the island was a Cork {totally called that one by the way - they said the Island was a 4-letter word and a and e were not in it; I said Cork.} keeping evil {Man In Black/Flocke} in, showing this with the bottle of wine... and then later he gave the wine to MIB, and MIB smashed it on the log. That says to me that "uncorking" is not the only way to let the wine {evil} out.

I love your Locke posts.
