You may say bad words at me for the technical-ness of this next clue, but somebody will figure it out. It's a tricky one. Don't stress out.
This movie was intended to be on the cover of the December 1941 issue of Time, but the idea was dropped when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, resulting in the United States entering World War II and reducing the box office draw of the film. Also, since the 1960's this movie has been publicly criticized for two scenes with racist intent. And...I may be giving away too much...but I picked this movie with a Mother's Day intent. Tears.
All right. Think. It's right there.

Dumbo. I'm almost positive that's it. If it is, you can give the prize to someone else since I already won one. Good game, so fun.
I don't know what I was thinking with my first guess... the timeline on my thinking was so off. I was thinking that the original story about 8 brothers being killed in the American Civil War. What would be harder on a Mother than that? It seems to me I always make this game harder on myself than it is supposed to be.
I'll keep thinking. toodles, sheila
I think the adamzes have it!
toodles, sheila
yep, it's gotta be Dumbo with those blackbirds that were so criticized... good solve (it's that's it!)
In December 1941, Time magazine planned to have Dumbo on its cover to commemorate its success, but it was dropped due to the attack on Pearl Harbor.
[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033563/trivia] Congratulations adamzes!!!
