I made some headbands for {cousin} Emma's birthday a couple weeks ago & they turned out so great I wanted to share.
I bought the cheap ones for $1.99 a pack,
because they're lightweight
& don't hurt behind the ears.
Cut off the woven covers.
so if your headband is 13" x 1/4"
you'd cut your fabric 15" x 1 1/4".
Don't judge my manicure.
just a couple straight stitches back and forth will do.
{I will show you the ruffle in a second}
and that's it!
Here's how you do the ruffle:
I made the bow by sewing the strip for the headband
about 3" longer than needed and used the extra length
to fold into a bow. I used another piece of the strip
to wrap around the bow & hot-glued it onto the headband.
So quick and easy.
ps. I'm trying to cut down on sugar.
I'm cranky.
Totally headband unrelated,
but relevant none-the-less.
i need a cookie.
Niice! I like this one. Good luck with the sugar thing....I'm still tryin'
ReplyDeletei love them! i am super into headbans right now. they help me not do my hair as much which i am also loving ( because i am lazy) i'm grumpy too. i'm doing body for life ( which is great!) but i can only eat treats and whatnot once a week. i miss my multi daily sweets. hang in there.
ReplyDeletebeary.beary cute headbands Miss Cally. I wish I had your talent... but at least somebody has it that doesn't waste it.
ReplyDeleteToOdLeS.
They look great on her--thanks! Someone at church asked if I had made her outfit and I've never been more flattered in my life.
ReplyDeleteI love them. you should wear the yellow one with your target shoes. cute cute cute.
ReplyDeleteI just added those headbands to my list of things to make. My sister LOVES everything fashion related, so I think I'll make some for her birthday in April. Very cute idea!
ReplyDeleteoh, cally. SOOO cool.
ReplyDeleteeat your wheat berry salad.
that's what i do instead of candy.
and graham crackers instead of cookies. (since those darn Kashi cookies are $4 for a bag of EIGHT cookies... they're taking advantage of all us cookie-holics desperately seeking higher health...)
You are AMAZING!! I love your work. Can I have a cookie too?
ReplyDeleteI've been eating a dangerous amount of the wheat berry salad, Cas.
ReplyDeletebut I may add chocolate chips to it soon.
way cute! and the movie monday looks like fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought at first that maybe this would be a good project for a sewing-wary girl like me. Then I saw the ruffle. And the bow. And all the other ADORABLE things you did, and I got scared. But they are very cute, and one day, I might try one. Because I am all about headbands that don't pinch behind the ear!
ReplyDeleteAnd ps: it is never a good idea to limit sugar. I just ate 3 extra sugar cookies to prove it to you.
ReplyDeleteLove love love the headbands. I will definetly be making a few of these!! Thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteAww, these are darling! I love the ruffles best, it's so cute! Thanks so much for this, I'll be linking.

Calli, very cute headbands! On the last headband how did you make the flower? Did you buy it?
ReplyDeleteI cut 3 strips of the white fabric and ruffled them. Then I just manipulated them into a flower shape with a needle and thread. I really don't have specific instructions because it was kind of an accident.
ReplyDeleteI was going to do three ruffles on that headband but when I saw them all jumbled together on the table, they looked like a flower.
Thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial! Such great headbands!

I'm a newbie to sewing and I wanted to try this, so I ended up doing 2" strip instead and it worked better, giving me a little leeway for my slips since I am still learning how to sew straight with a machine. Once I get it posted up, I'll let you know. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial!

ReplyDeleteAs tiaras estão lindas, obrigada pelo tutorial, Zélia.
ReplyDeletereally adorable headbands! so wish i still had little girlies to make them for!! by the way, i know what ya mean about the sugar! {recently diagnosed diabetic} the first two weeks of cutting out {or back} the sugar, is the hardest. after that, you'll feel so good.. sugar will be a distant memory!! :) a good tip, get some sugarless gum, for when the cravings get to ya.. it gives ya just enough of a sugar 'taste', it cuts the craving. good luck! {new follower}

I love this!
ReplyDeleteI'm launching my first linky party next tuesday. It's for projects that cost less than $10 and take less than 20-30 minutes. Would you consider linking up with me on my first linky party endeavor? Thanks!

Found this on pinterest thanks so much for the tute, these are great and the instructions are so detailed. I will definitely give these a go as I know my daughter would love to help design her own headband and the fabric or elastic ones just don't stay on our heads properly.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this - I was trying to work out how to make a fabric cover for a headband and this was by far the most useful tutorial I found. You can see the results of my little headband craft project here: http://lastyeargirl.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/how-to-make-a-fabric-covered-hairband-with-bow.html
ReplyDeletehow sweet tutorial...ilike it
ReplyDeleteThis is very useful posting and i am belive online shopping very useful
ReplyDeleteBuy headbands
I am also making headbands for out little Emma. I am doing it a very different way, by wrapping them with silk ribbon and adding theee or four ribbons with beads and whatever u want to add to hang down on one side..I love ur idea too love the way u have finished of the ends seems that would help with the comfort of wearing them. and about the sugar thing. I have found that u should never tell yourself no, that only makes u want it more, instead I simply satisfy myself by just having the cookie or just a taste of whatever looks so good just because u should not do it. I quit smoking that way . it works for me, just an idea to put out there..
